Selecting
Carpet
Carpets don't wear
out, they "ugly" out! Due to the materials from which carpet is made,
wear is generally not a problem. However, there are other items which you will want to
consider when choosing carpet for your home or business:
- Density
The more dense the fibers
(ie: the closer they are together), the longer your carpet will retain its lustre and
cushion.
- Crush/Mat Warranty
While your carpet may
never wear out, your heavy traffic areas may mat and crush the carpet in such a way that
it never recovers. Choose a carpet with a good crush/mat warranty, and pace the floor as
often as you like!
- Stain Protection
Most carpets come with
some form of stain protection and/or Scotch Guard. The best stain protection is the type
that is applied while the fibers are still in a liquid state, and every company has their
own name for this type of protection.
- Wear Warranty
Although wear is not
usually a problem with carpet, the longer the warranty, the higher quality carpet you are
purchasing.

Carpet Maintenance Schedule
Begin now to take care of
your new carpet by following this recommended schedule of cleaning and vacuuming. Fallon
Floors highly recommends the use of HOST products for deep cleaning and spot removal because it is
the best cleaning, least expensive and most environmentally friendly carpet cleaner
available! HOST also kills the allergy producing dust mites that live in your carpet.
- As Needed
- Be sure to remove spots and spills when
they happen. The HOST Emergency Pack is perfect for these occasions.
-
- Weekly
You will want to vacuum
all carpeted areas in your home or office at least once a week. Vacuum traffic areas more
frequently. Remember, you can never vacuum too often! (Sorry, kids!)
- Monthly
Focus on the most heavily
used traffic areas of your home or office, such as doorway entrances, hallways and stairs.
Use HOST products for the most thorough cleaning of these areas.
- Semi-Annually
At least twice a year, use
the HOST system to clean all traffic areas that are walked on and used regularly.
- Annually
To protect your carpet
investment, Fallon Floors highly recommends cleaning your carpet from
wall-to-wall at least once a year with the HOST Dry Carpet Cleaning System.

Selecting Vinyl Flooring
When selecting vinyl flooring, please
consider the thickness of the wear layer (which determines how long it will last). Do not
go below .010 gauge, and buy the thickest wear layer you can afford!

Cleaning Your Vinyl Floors
Keeping your new floors clean and shiny can be a chore
here in the desert of Northern Nevada. Fallon Floors
recommends that you follow the schedule below to protect your new flooring from dirt, sand
and grit.
- Daily
- Broom-sweep your vinyl floors keeping sand and other
elements from being ground into the material or scratching the surface.
-
- Monthly
- You will want to mop your vinyl floor at least once a
month. To avoid the dulling residue left by water, Fallon Floors
recommends that you add a splash of ammonia to a bucket of warm water for mopping.
Immediately after mopping, use white towels and dry it quickly. This will keep your floors
shiny and clean.
